The AHCC/BEOC has been helping a number of Albuquerque Businesses Expand

This weekend the Albuquerque Hispano Chamber of Commerce (AHCC) welcomes The United States Hispanic Chamber of Commerce (USHCC) convention to town. The 44-year-old staple organization that is the AHCC, continues in its service to businesses large and small in Albuquerque by helping to build the success of some of Burque’s best. At the AHCC, there is a set of beliefs that drive the staff and those that they connect within the community  “challenge everything, be mindful of your community.” The AHCC helps business contribute to the greater cause –  and in adding value to the businesses and business practices of their members. The Hispano Chamber literally and figuratively provides a place where successful people meet and collaborate. Because in all reality, most people are one connection away from realizing their dream. They aim to help all business owners capitalize on opportunity, while creating opportunities for business owners at the same time.

Notably, and as of late, Barelas Economic Opportunity Center (BEOC)  the workforce development and education arm of the AHCC, offers cutting-edge entrepreneurial programs for both Spanish-speaking entrepreneurs and for our members with businesses established between 1-5 years. Strategic alignment with the City and other business resource organizations ensures that the AHCC maintains a high level of commitment to growing our entrepreneurial ecosystem.

ABQ Hispano Chamber & Wells Fargo wants your business to Avanzar!

The BEOC has been helping a number of Albuquerque businesses expand. They are one of two national pilot sites for the Avanzar Program for Hispanic chamber members with businesses 3 years or older, with annual revenues of $100,000 or greater. Sponsored by the U.S. Hispanic Chamber of Commerce and funded by Wells Fargo featuring WellsFargoWorks.com website tool for businesses. The BEOC is working with 9 phenomenal business members, helping to support and grow their businesses right here in Albuquerque. For the past four years, Wells Fargo has spent more than $1 billion per year with diverse suppliers. “We’re committed to increasing our spend with diverse suppliers through building capacity in diverse businesses across the country. The Avanzar Program is one of our innovative approaches to creating a pipeline of strong Hispanic owned businesses,” said Regina Heyward, senior vice president and head of supplier diversity for Wells Fargo.

This year’s 9 cohorts in the first-class North Bar Industries, Louie Sanchez Allstate Agency, JohnnyBoards Indoor Advertising, Cornivore (popcorn company),  Liv It Up, Celina Biscochitos, Cervantes Salsa, Trendz Beauty Supply, New Mexico Brief Relief have benefited from 9 sessions with industry experts and 2 hours of 1 on 1 time with the business consultants.

Great, right? So if you want to know where to go to grow – look no further. With over 100 events a year to connect with other business owners in and out of your field and line of work – for means of building a strong and diverse network, the AHCC ought to be your choice. The AHCC is the largest Hispanic chamber in the country and the largest chamber of commerce in New Mexico. The Chamber’s membership is comprised of approximately 60% Hispanic-owned Businesses and 40% Non-Hispanic-Owned Businesses. While being a historically Hispanic-focused association, The Hispano chamber champions inclusivity and is proud to consider themselves not only the small business chamber of Albuquerque but of New Mexico.

Coasters for Community: One Albuquerque Housing Fund
Gets Boost from JohnnyBoards and Ambitions Business Solutions

Coasters for Community

What happens when two locally owned, community-minded businesses put their access to shared resources and efforts together to help the least fortunate in our city? You get a 10,000 coaster campaign push that aids the City of Albuquerque’s One Albuquerque Housing Fund. That’s right – at no cost to the taxpayer or the City, but instead, thanks to the kindness of two businesses and another three-dozen who took the coasters on as something to set a drink on for patrons – 10,000 people have an opportunity to help those that need it most.

Everyone in Albuquerque realizes that our city is confronting an issue that many other cities and states around the country are also dealing with – homelessness. The City of Albuquerque is taking a multi-faceted approach with, online platforms/posts, a website dedicated to information surrounding the fund, and billboards and signage that all point to the One Albuquerque Housing Fund, a fund developed to help secure housing vouchers for people in need. The latest push is a partnership between JohnnyBoards, Ambitions Business Solutions and the City of Albuquerque. Now, you can set your drink down on a coaster at local restaurants like Slice Parlor, The Standard Diner and the Range Cafe. Local breweries including The 377, Nexus, Cantero, Blue Grass Hopper, Rio Bravo and Santa Fe Brewing. Local coffee shops like Michael Thomas Coffee. Scan the QR code on the coaseter sends you directly to the One Albuquerque Housing Fund’s donation site.

There never really can be too much information available when it comes to helping those in need – and two businesses in Ambitions and JohnnyBoards saw a need in our city that has been lent to. If you care to lend your help, just scan the code on the coaster the next time you sit down to sip or take a bite out of something good at a local establishment using these coasters.

When it comes to ingenuity and heart Albuquerque businesses are second to none. The idea behind “One Albuquerque” is in fact that we are all in this together, building a city we can be proud to be part of, and to leave better off or the future generations beyond our own. Thanks Ambitions Business Solutions. JohnnyBoards is proud to have collaborated with Ambitions and CABQ with the hope that – the city of Albuquerque is a little bit better thanks to a small task from some big hearts.

Building Better Health for City Employees Building Better Health for the City of Albuquerque Employees

I have been a health educator for 26 years, at federal, state, and municipal levels.  I started my career at Cannon Air Force Base in Clovis, moved on to the New Mexico Department of Health’s obesity and tobacco use prevention programs, and now I’m with the City of Albuquerque,” said Lisa Gatan, the City’s Employee Health and Wellness Coordinator.

We had a chat with Lisa, who uses JohnnyBoards’ services as part of her approach to approaching the idea of better health at the City of Albuquerque. “Our priorities for city employees include activities to improve nutrition, engage in regular physical activity, quit using tobacco products, reduce stress, and get health screenings at appropriate intervals,” she said. Why? Because healthier employees are more efficient, effective! So, how do they get the word out? Well our JohnnyBoards of course! On top of that they use a number of other tactics.
“We use email blasts, Intranet announcements, presentations, and posters to market campaigns,” she said. She added kind words about our work together, saying,  “since 2015, marketing on JohnnyBoards has been a great addition to the City of Albuquerque’s employee wellness program. JohnnyBoards have allowed us to reach employees in the field, such as bus drivers and street maintenance workers.  Some of our health programs have really improved employees’ lives, so it’s important that all employees are aware of every stress reduction, nutrition, and physical activity program we offer. Marketing to field employees gives them a chance to sign-up and participate.  The JohnnyBoards text message feature allows us to immediately send registration materials to employees’ phones, instead of having them log on to a shared computer, which could be postponed or forgotten altogether. We asked employees their opinions about JohnnyBoards at their work locations, and the majority find the boards very helpful to stay informed about wellness benefits.”Here is a link to our findings.
We could not be happier to learn that there are folks benefitting from our messaging due to the accessible positioning of the posts. Great, right? We think so – so, do you have mobile employees – ones always on the go, not just at a desk? Maybe JohnnyBoards is a good test for you to take, in terms of talking to them in a way they find and relate to. Just sayin’…

Think about it. The City of Albuquerque, for nearly five years in, is working together to build healthier human beings within the ranks of the City workforce.

Going Above and Beyond – Bernalillo County Above the Influence Program

Young people in our communities around New Mexico, deserve the very best. Nobody believes that more, perhaps, than Frank Magourilos of Prevention Works. Frank runs a company doing digital and print outreach and messaging, and has partnered on several occasions via JohnyBoards services, to make sure his message is read and seen far and wide. Frank does work in several counties around New Mexico, his work as the Be Above the Influence campaign with Bernalillo County is just one example of him going above and beyond.

As we strive to make their experiences safe, and fruitful, it takes a number of strategies and efforts to keep them out of harm’s way. Prevention Works realizes this and has taken the lead in messaging to those young people, meeting them where they are at so to speak – with their Above the Influence Campaign.

Created with GIMP

Above the Influence’s main focus is to prevent and reduce underage drinking in Bernalillo County. They have mobilized and utilized two strategies in order to prevent underage drinking, what they call “environmental strategy” and via “direct services.” Their environmental strategy utilizes multiple venues and modalities to engage people of all ages in terms and regards to reducing underage drinking. Direct services created by Above the Influence, is, in fact, a curriculum that has been developed and given to school teachers and administrators for their uses. Pretty awesome, right? We think so. Now that you know, keep an eye out on social media and in and around town, for postings physical and digital, that encourage our young people to “Be Above the Influence.”

Above the Influence has truly gone above and beyond in their efforts and with their reach. They exist in ALL public, private, and Catholic schools in Bernalillo County. With community centers, libraries systems and more – they are partnered with over 300 entities in Bernalillo County; it’s plain to see and admirable that this work is not being taken lightly, but instead being met with the focus and energy it deserves.

Living “above” things can be hard for our young people. In the era of social media, where our lives are lived on a screen, things can be hard to get “above,” especially for our young ones. This is why they need all the help they can get. Want to be involved? Above the Influence is always looking to add more partners to the Be Above the Influence Campaign. When you see the ad up on a JohnnyBoard near you, consider getting involved – you won’t be disappointed!

NM Poison Control buys PSA space at Highland high school and helps DECA Students fund state and national competition

The New Mexico Poison and Drug Information Center has been a program at the University of New Mexico College of Pharmacy since 1977. No new kid on the block here – but this long-standing community program and staple, is helping kids in the greater Albuquerque community, who are focused on helping themselves and the world around them.

Recently, the NMPDIC, which focuses primarily on poison prevention and professional education throughout the state and two phone services:  poison help (for questions about and management for poisonings) and drug information (any questions about medications), chose to focus on a different kind of impact. They chose to purchase advertising from JohnnyBoards. JohnnyBoards is an “unavoidable” advertising company that aims to hang advertisements and information based postings in common public areas – this has been key in places like APS schools because these days, the majority of information and postings that are “dropped off” at schools, ultimately doesn’t get distributed, but recycled at best.

Why is that important? The money that they spent on the ads, $500 total to be exact, was passed directly through and to, students/members of the DECA program at Highland High School. DECA programs exist around the nation. They’re membership-based programs that allow young people in a high school setting to gain experience in entrepreneurial endeavors in the realm of marketing, business management, hospitality and finance.

It only seems fitting then, that JohnnyBoards, while speaking to local community members who were also connected to Highland High, and the DECA program, and finding out that their program needed support for means of fundraising to attend a national conference, JohnnyBoards chose to help in an innovative way.

The advertisement that primarily focuses on prevention and education based messaging on JohnnyBoards frames in and around common areas at Highland High, is being sold to community stakeholders that believe in the power of Albuquerque youth and supporting their dreams beyond the classroom.

Sound like something you and your business would be interested in? Contact Ruben Garcia of JohnnyBoards TODAY! As you can see, anyone can find a way to send their message, advertise and promote their service, and with a little bit of community-minded thought power, benefit something and someone beyond themselves. Cheers NMPDIC and JohnnyBoards – let’s hope it starts a trend.
